Sharingan
[Copy Wheel Eye]

The Sharingan, meaning Copy Wheel Eye, is a special type of pupil condition [Dōjutsu] that naturally occurs in all members of the Uchiha clan, though not all of them gain the ability to use it. The Sharingan is thought to be descended from the Byakugan, but grants the user different abilities and a different insight, which includes the ability to observe the movement and flow of Chakra, not to the same extent as the Byakugan, but with enough clarity to tell if a person is trapped in a Genjutsu, or if an attacker is a real threat or merely a būnshin.

The Sharingan's first and most well known ability is to memorize any technique that it witnesses. It can memorize Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu with perfect accuracy, allowing the user to use the techniques as his own. In order to reproduce copied Jutsu, however, one must have the necessary skill or ability to perform them. In addition to physical skill, the Sharingan cannot allow the user to reproduce any other bloodline abilities or summon a creature the user has not made a contract with, because the user of the Sharingan has to have the same blood as the one they are copying.

The Sharingan also grants the user incredible clarity of perception, allowing them to track fast moving objects with great ease and predict their opponent's action based on the slightest muscle tense. This perception is so great that it can even see through Genjutsu and reverse it, depending upon the skill of the user.

Finally, the Sharingan is capable of a unique brand of hypnosis that involves suggesting actions and thoughts to the opponent. When used in conjunction with the other aspects of the Sharingan, this allows the user to copy and use an opponent's technique before they can actually execute it themselves.

The Sharingan does not automatically appear from birth in a user; instead, it will usually appear when the user is in a life-threatening situation, where the power of the Sharingan could save the user. After this first appearance, the user can then call up the Sharingan any time he or she pleases. The power of the Sharingan is judged through the number of tomoe in the eye, known as the "tomoe seal". It is not unheard of for a Sharingan user to have different amounts of tomoe in each eye. A fully-matured Sharingan has three tomoe in each eye.

It is possible to transplant Sharingan eyes from one person to another, however, transplanted eyes do not work as well in a non-Uchiha body, causing more strain on the user. Uchiha clan members are not burdened with this weakness; while activation of the Sharingan does consume Chakra, the drain is so small as to be almost insignificant.

Mangekyō Sharingan

Sharingan is the blood inheritance limit of the Uchiha Clan. The Mangekyō Sharingan is a legendary Dōjutsu ability which has only emerged in a few clan members in its history. The requirements for gaining the Mangekyō are very controversial in nature. After Uchiha Itachi murdered his best friend Shisui he gained Mangekyō. He told his younger brother Sasuke that to gain the Mangekyō form, he too would have to kill his closest friend. There is still mystery surrounding the eye and the Uchiha clan itself. Itachi told Sasuke that a scroll in their clan shrine reveals the true original purpose of the clan Dōjutsu; however readers have yet to be told what this secret is. Itachi also told Sasuke that if he also gains the Mangekyō, then there will be three people who could handle it. After the time skip in the series, Hatake Kakashi revealed he had gained a form of Mangekyō, though his eye did not resemble Itachi's. It is unknown if Hatake Kakashi or his eye's original owner Uchiha Obito was this third person.

Usage of the Mangekyō techniques drains quite a bit of a user’s Chakra, more so than any other normal technique. The three revealed Mangekyō techniques are the Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi and an unnamed technique. Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi are named after mythological deities; they have a sibling named Susanoo. This unnamed third technique may in actuality be this one.

The Amaterasu or Goddess of the Sun technique is a Ninjutsu technique which uses the Mangekyō form to create a powerful black fire. This fire can then be used to blast through anything, including strong barriers, and is said to burn for 7 days and 7 nights.

The Tsukuyomi or God of the Moon technique is a Genjutsu technique which uses the Mangekyō form to initiate a mentally and physically harmful illusion. To utilize the illusion, the clan member will look into the eyes of his opponent and cast a Genjutsu spell on them. The spell takes place in the mind of the one affected, while the Jutsu is cast the one it was cast upon is at the total mercy of the Uchiha clan member. The clan member has full control over space and time in the Jutsu and can place the one affected through any hell they desire for any length desired. The technique itself only lasts for but a second in reality, but the one affected could have lasted through several days of pain. It is said only a natural born member of the Uchiha Clan can defeat it, this may mean either an Uchiha also holding the Mangekyō or one fully skilled in the three tomoe Sharingan form.

Itachi has been shown to possess the ability to perform hand seals at high speed. His hands move so quickly, that to the naked eye, they don't even appear to move; even Kakashi, Sharingan active, was barely able to detect any movement.

Ninjutsu


Katon • Hōsenka no Jutsu

The ninja does the necessary hand seals and then emits a series of small fire balls. The ninja can also hurl a projectile which is covered in these same flames. To the opponent the attack appears to be only the balls of flame, they do not see the hidden threat within the flames. Meaning that even if the flames are put out, the projectiles still converge on the target. The flames can be used to cover different projectiles like Shuriken or Kunai.

Katon • Gōkakyuu no Jutsu

The ninja does the necessary hand seals, draws Chakra from their mouth into their chest and them immediately exhales it. They then blow a stream of fire which erupts into a large sphere of flames. To better manage the flames the ninja will bring their hand to their mouth to control it. Katon jutsu such as this are seen as a rite of passage into adulthood for Uchiha clan members. Once the member can manipulate fire, they are finally recognized as no longer being a child.

Kage Būnshin no Jutsu

Kage Bunshin is a Jounin level Ninjutsu technique. When Naruto stole the scroll of seals, he learned this technique as well. The normal Bunshin technique creates a copy of the ninja that lacks any substance. The Kage Bunshin distributes the Ninja's chakra evenly among the clones and creates a real copy with form and substance. The clone itself can also utilize any Jutsu the original ninja knows. When the clone finally disperses, any new knowledge it has gained is passed back to the original ninja and any additional clones. This makes Kage Bunshin an excellent training method if the ninja has the Chakra capacity and stamina to maintain the Kage Bunshins for an extended period of time. This allows the ninja to essentially reduce the time it takes to train and learn with each clone added. This is especially true when used with Tajuu Kage Bunshin.

Būnshin Bakuha

Bunshin Bakuha is a Ninjutsu technique utilized by Uchiha Itachi which allows him to detonate Kage Bunshin at will to form a very large explosion.

Katon • Karyūbatsu no Jutsu

The user thrusts a hand forward and shoots a single large blast of flame at the enemy in the shape of the hand that was thrust forward. Ex; A fist makes a fist shape flame.

Katon • Hiōi no Jutsu

The user shoots a stream of flame from their mouth which expands rapidly after a certain point, shielding the user from view in a sheet of flames.

Doton • Shinjū Zanshu no Jutsu

A Ninjutsu technique utilizing the Earth Element. The ninja will travel through the ground to appear below their target. They will then surprise their target by then pulling them into the ground. Once in the ground their target is thus immobilized.

Suiton • Suijinheki

A Ninjutsu technique utilizing the Water Element. The ninja will first do a string of hand seals and then proceed to blow out a jet of water from their mouth to act as a water barrier from incoming attack.

Suikisoku no Jutsu

This Jutsu allows the user to breathe underwater as long as they consistently concentrate Chakra to the lungs. A minimal amount of Chakra is needed.

Suiton • Suiryūdan no Jutsu
[Water Release • Water Dragon Bullet Technique]

A Ninjutsu technique utilizing the Water Element. The ninja does a long string of hand seals which then causes a column of water in the form of a dragon to rise from the water and then strike their target.



Genjutsu


Dohougakai no Jutsu
[Going to pieces Technique]

A Genjutsu that causes the victim to see their entire body collapse and fall into a million different pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. This leaves the real body unable to move since the person doesn’t think they have muscles anymore. Can be used through eye contact with the Sharingan.

Takegushi no Jutsu
[Bamboo Skewer Technique]

A Genjutsu that forces the target to see bamboo reeds sprout up from the ground. Bamboo stabs through each foot and wraps up the upper body immobilizing the target. Can be used through eye contact with the Sharingan.

Utakata
[Ephemeral]

Utakata is a Genjutsu technique utilized by Akatsuki member Uchiha Itachi. Itachi will start this technique by using only one finger on his right hand. His target does not have to look into his eyes, protrusion of the finger is enough. Once inside the illusion, he can control the visions the ninja sees. This illusion can also be used to play on the worst fears of the target, whatever they may be.

Jubaku Satsu
[Tree Binding Death]

Jubaku Satsu is a Genjutsu technique utilized by the Leaf Jounin Yuuhi Kurenai. After forming the needed hand seals, Kurenai will disappear and approach her target. Once near her target, a tree will grow at their feet and its branches will bind them so they can no longer move. Once the illusion makes them believe they are captured, Kurenai will appear from the tree itself and stab her target with a kunai. [Copied and can be used by the Sharingan]

Unnamed Genjutsu

This seems to be a specialized Genjutsu unique to the Sharingan, used by both Uchiha Sasuke and Uchiha Itachi. The user can activate this ability by making slight eye contact with his victim, at which point the afflicted will see and feel a number of large nails embedded in their body. Once trapped, the victim is unable to move or use any Jutsu to defend themselves.


Kaminenshou no Jutsu
[Burning Paper Technique]

A Genjutsu which, when activated, causes the victim to see themselves as a light, fragile piece of paper. After several seconds, the victim will light on fire and slowly burn from bottom to top - immobilized by pain and the quick loss of limbs. Can be used through eye contact with the Sharingan.

Magen • Kyouten Chiten

Magen • Kyouten Chiten is a Genjutsu technique unique to the Uchiha bloodline Sharingan holders. Using the copy and counter functions of the Sharingan eye, the Uchiha clan member can stop the Genjutsu cast and reverse it back on their opponent.
